Last winter I was a photographer. Behind the camera, never in front of it. Then I started writing in public about the thing I had been putting off and found out I was far more capable than I had been giving myself credit for. You cleared a morning for the thing that matters. Sat down. Started. Something happened — a phone call, a school run, the weight of a Tuesday. The morning closed before you'd used it. You told yourself you'd try again next week. That was three months ago. Or six. Or two years. This essay is about you.

Most of us are living a life that accumulated rather than a life we designed. The difference between the two is not a matter of luck or circumstance. It is a matter of attention.
